Am I Using My Fixture Correctly?
Chandeliers
Chandeliers are flair pieces that add dramatic style to a room. They provide general illumination, usually in layers from the multiple bulbs. A chandelier makes a bold statement in any room, due to its large size and intricate design. These fixtures are most commonly placed in entryways, dining rooms and bedrooms.
Lamps
When placed in pairs, lamps add a balance of light to your living space. You can save space with the swing-arm version that swivels in the direction where you need light. A fixture as simple as a table lamp can make a major style statement with the different shade colors and base designs available. Place lamps in bedrooms, living rooms and home offices.
Pendants
Pendants are a stylish space saver, but they serve a particular function that might not be needed in every room of your home. The focused downlight provided by a pendant makes them essential in task areas: the kitchen island, a desk and above the bathroom mirror to name a few. Pendants can act as accent lighting in your living room, bedroom or hallway.
Sconces
Much like a pendant light, a wall sconce can serve as accent or task lighting. They tend to highlight certain objects in the area, opposed to illuminating a whole space, so sconces should not be relied on as your main source of light. Wall sconces can be placed almost anywhere, but it is a general rule of thumb to place two, strategically measured apart.
