4 Steps to Choose the Right Desk Lighting
Find Your New Desk Light
Functionality
Whether you choose traditional incandescent or energy-efficient LED lighting, the desk lamp should emit bright light without glare. Make sure the light is clear and comfortable to work under, otherwise you could be at risk for eye strain.
Another feature to consider is dimmability. While performing certain tasks, you may need more or less light than others. A dimmer switch would allow you to increase the light level as needed.
Adjustability
Adjustable lamps give you more control over where the light is positioned. Especially if you have a full desk, the ability to move the neck of the lamp is essential. At Connecticut Lighting Centers, we carry a vast selection of swivel and swing-arm tabletop lamps to help you guide the direction of illumination.
Sizing
A critical step in choosing the ideal light fixture is measuring your space. If the desk is relatively small or you keep it fully stocked with items, you don’t want to choose a big lamp. As a general rule of thumb, make sure the lamp is proportional to the area of the desk.
Placement
The positioning of the bulb should never be in your line of sight. Keep the light above your head and direct it down on your workspace. On the desktop, prevent shadows by placing the lamp in the opposite corner of where you’re working. For instance, if you are left-handed the desk lamp should be positioned to the right to avoid shadows while you write.
