How to Light Teen Study Spaces
1. Comfortable but Practical
Many school-aged kids like to study on their bed because it’s comfortable, but this area is not always conducive for productivity. Being too comfortable could lead to falling asleep while reading a textbook!
A study area should be designated for those tasks alone, like the corner of your child’s bedroom, set up with a desk and comfortable chair.
2. Proper Lighting
To create an effective workspace, lighting is essential. In the bedroom, there’s likely a floor lamp or semi-flush mount for general illumination, but your child will need task lighting too.
For the desk, we recommend an adjustable table lamp that you can move as needed. Shine the light directly on your workspace, rather than at a computer screen to prevent glare. Also make sure the light is right above eye level to reduce eye strain.
3. Add a Personal Touch
For the typical teenager, homework is not the number one priority. To make schoolwork feel less like a chore, the study space should be motivating. Bring personal style and charm to the space with a cool vintage lamp, bright shade or unique lamp finial!
