Lighting Trends of 2016
Spring is the perfect time for a lighting upgrade; no more snow from winter and the heat of summer is still months away. Trends come and go all the time, but we can see some of the ones forecasted for 2016 getting big! They can also be accomplished easily with our products. We outline five of them below.
Cabinet Lighting
After slowly gaining popularity over the past several years, cabinet lighting is finally a must-have feature. Particularly useful in the kitchen, under-cabinet lighting provides the appropriate amount of light needed while performing tasks or entertaining. A major benefit of under-cabinet lighting is the saved counter space. A hardwired system can replace the table lamps you were previously using for extra light. At Connecticut Lighting Centers, we are a preferred dealer of Legrand™ and Kichler™ cabinet lighting products.
Artisanal Pieces
These fixtures combine unique craftsmanship with both vintage and modern undertones to create a traditional style. Artisanal accents are a huge ongoing trend in lighting right now, with consumers becoming even more appreciative of companies that promote social and environmental responsibility. We are proud to carry one of the brands at the forefront of this movement: Hubbardton Forge™. Hand-blown artisanal glass has been a main feature for the company as they bring new fixtures to market.
Extra Large Fixtures
Many homeowners are nervous about incorporating oversized lighting fixtures into their design scheme. Now they are a growing trend! Specifically, large chandeliers that make a bold statement are appearing more consistently in remodeling projects. They look particularly stunning in homes with high ceilings or a large foyer, yet anyone can try the trend and make it work for their space. Many of the lighting brands that we carry at Connecticut Lighting have collections of oversized fixtures that come in all different shapes, styles and finishes, including Maxim™, Feiss™ Sea Gull™ and ET2 Lighting™.
Industrial Chic Style
The word “industrial” typically means something strong and durable, often found in manufacturing. The industrial chic style combines aged, practical design with beautiful craftsmanship to create timeless pieces. While industrial chic can be matched with virtually any other design style, it is popularly paired with more rustic ones. The natural, more simple accents seem to mix better with it, whether your rustic pieces are traditional or modern.
Metal Accents
Continuing the theme of durable and vintage looks, the ‘80s are making a comeback! On-trend fixture finishes this year include bronze, brass and gold tones. One up-side to the return of metal accents in lighting is that they match with almost any existing color scheme. Not only will shades of bronze add a fun throwback look to your interior, but you will not have to make any further design changes if you don’t want to.
