Description
This beautiful champleve vase is decorated with raised colorful arabesque flowers and vines, set against a dark black metal. The detailed palmettes flow from one to another to create an all over pattern. The term champleve is used to describe the type of enamel work used on this vase. Areas are carved out of the metal, filled with powered glass, then fired in a kiln. After this, the glass hardens into enamel, thus forming the gorgeous precise detailing as seen here. This vase is truly a work of art. Circa 1900. 20″ H x 8″ D.
