Lighting Around the Vanity

blue bathroom In traditional bathroom lighting design, a bath bar is placed above the mirror for general illumination. However, overhead lighting on its own can cast shadows that make it difficult to shave or apply makeup. Consider adding vertical fixtures on either side of the mirror for more even lighting.

Swing arm sconces are both stylish and functional. They modernize the look of your bathroom and can be adjusted to meet your particular needs.

Task & Accent Lighting

When lighting a room, we tend to focus on the general illumination and can forget about the other needs for light. Task lighting is especially important in the bathroom, where you spend time getting ready and winding down after a long day. As mentioned, task lighting installed around the vanity provides more uniform brightness when and where its needed.

On the other hand, you may have some unique features in your bathroom that you want to highlight. Consider adding accent lighting to show off plants, artwork or bathroom shelving.

Statement Lighting

The combination of ambient, task and accent lighting is called layered lighting. By adding different layers of light, you make sure every corner of the room is appropriately lit. When it comes to ambient lighting, we often think of recessed cans or a semi-flush mount for the bathroom. However, the trend of 2019 kicks it up a notch with statement chandeliers. A big fixture creates a more elegant, spa-like atmosphere than recessed lighting. For smaller bathrooms, pendant lighting is also on-trend.

Under-Cabinet Lighting

Does your bathroom have cool or unique flooring? If you have cabinetry below the sink, think about installing some under-cabinet lights. This feature is commonly seen in the kitchen, but under-cabinet lighting adds another layer of illumination for your footpath in the bathroom. When the regular lights are too bright at night, turn on the under-cabinet lights for more subtle illumination.

LED Mirrors

The best products combine multiple features in one. Every bathroom needs lighting and a mirror, but what if you don’t have the space for both? LED mirrors are illuminated on the inside with energy-efficient light bulbs!
